Knowledge and Data Science Research Centre (KDRC) at Department of Computer Engineering, College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (CEME), National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) was established in 2012 to meet the challenges of data-driven and knowledge-driven large-scale intelligent systems for real-world applications and to complement research in other fields. The centre was established by Dr Usman Qamar, who become the founding director of it. The main aim is the analysis, design, implementation and application of several machine learning techniques and methodologies to support the operation or behaviour analysis of real-world complex systems or domains. The research is focused on the analysis, design, management or supervision of these domains, such as in healthcare and bioinformatics, in social and internet-based systems and in the industrial sector.
Evolving around data and information in all their types and usages, the Centre covers all phases and processes from data pre-processing to engineering and visualisation. The Centre is developing novel methods and systems for information extraction and retrieval, natural language processing, the use of ontologies for document classification and extraction, data intensive computing, bioinformatics and business intelligence.
Our main areas of research are:
- Big Data
- Natural Language Processing
- Health Sciences
- Counter Terrorism
