Dr. Sajid Siraj of Centre for Decision Research (CDR), University of Leeds, UK visited Knowledge and Data Science Research Centre (KDRC) at NUST College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering. He had a number of meaningful discussions at multiple levels on enhancing cooperation between NUST and University of Leeds. Dr Siraj met Rector NUST to discuss potential of both universities working together, specifically in the fields of business analytics, decision science and artificial intelligence. They shared some interesting applications of these emerging technologies in the private/corporate sector as well as in public sector. Dr Siraj then met with Pro-rector (Academic) NUST discussing the emerging trends in business analytics and decision support systems. Dr Siraj also met with Director Research, NUST and discussed about some of his on-going projects with a number of business organisations in the UK.
Dr Usman Qamar’s will be delivering keynote talk on using blockchains in medical data at 16th IEEE International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST19) hosted by Centers of Excellence in Science and Applied Technologies at National Centre of Physics, Islamabad, Pakistan on 10 Jan 2019 at 9:30 am.
Dr Usman Qamar’s will be delivering a seminar talk on big data at the ACM-Woman Chapter on 22nd November 2018 from 1-2 PM at SEECS Seminar Hall, NUST.
Dr Usman Qamar’s second book with Springer & Co shall be a textbook for postgraduate and upper undergraduate titled “Data Science Concepts and Techniques with Applications”. It shall be published in early 2019.
Dr Usman Qamar has been awarded PKR 88.8 Million rupees for his lab, titled “Digital Pakistan Lab”, which shall be part of National Center of Big Data and Cloud Computing.
Dr Raheel Nawaz, Reader in Data & Text Mining at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK gave a lecture today at KDRC on UK Grants, with special emphasis on Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF).
Dr Usman Qamar has been awarded the NUST Best University Researcher Award for 2016.
Dr Usman Qamar has been awarded the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Best Researcher of Pakistan at the 6th Outstanding Research Awards. Two of his research papers, the first one written by Dr Farhan, Dr Usman and Dr Saba and the second paper written by Dr Summair and Dr Usman were also awarded the best research paper awards.

Dr Usman Qamar has become the recipient of the prestigious Charles Wallace Visiting Fellowship.
Dr Usman Qamar is selected as a finalist for the Professional Achievement Award, held by British Council. This international award, honour’s UK university alumni who have made a significant contribution to the societies, professions and country.
