Prof Dr Usman Qamar is excited to announce the publication of my textbook “Data Science Concepts and Techniques with Applications, Second Edition”. At 500 pages, it comprehensively covers both fundamental and advanced topics related to data science, presents data pre-processing, classification, clustering, text and pattern mining, deep learning, regression analysis. It includes an introduction to the open source tool WEKA, the Waikato Environment for Knowledge Analysis. It also consists of over 300 chapter exercises.

The book is now available worldwide from Springer, Amazon and other leading booksellers.


Prof Dr Usman Qamar has been as appointed as a Founding Editor of the journal “AI and Ethics”. The first and the only individual from Pakistan to be on its board. “AI and Ethics” is the first journal of its type that debates and discusses the ethical, regulatory, and policy implications that arise from the development of AI.


Prof Dr Usman Qamar has been as appointed to the “Board of Editors” for one of the most influential journals in AI, the prestigious “Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence”.


Prof Dr Usman Qamar delivered an invited keynote talk at the prestigious 11th International Conference on Through-life Engineering Services (TESConf 2022), which was held at Cranfield University, UK.


The Department of Computer & Software Engineering, NUST College of E&ME in collaboration with KDRC hosted the 2nd IEEE International Conference on Digital Futures and Transformative Technologies. The conference received nearly 300 submissions from 17 countries. 62 papers were accepted in 7 tracks giving us an acceptance rate of 23% making it A* IEEE conference. The opening keynote was by Prof John A Erkoyuncu, Cranfield University, UK and the session keynotes by Prof Witold Pedrycz, The University of Alberta, Canada and Prof Thierry Denoeux, Université de Technologie de Compiègne, France, Prof Edward J., Columbia University, USA to name a few.


It is a great pleasure to share that Dr Usman Qamar, Director KDRC has been promoted to Tenured Professor of Data Science, National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan .


Dr Usman Qamar has been appointed by Higher Education Commission, Pakistan and National Technology Council, Pakistan member of the Curriculum Development Committee (CDC) for the “Computer Engineering Technology”.


Dr Usman Qamar has been appointed Visiting Fellow at Cranfield University, UK. Cranfield is one of the few universities in UK that is a specialist postgraduate university.


Dr Usman Qamar has joined the Editorial Board of Informatics in Medicine Unlocked. Informatics in Medicine Unlocked (IMU) is an international gold open access journal covering a broad spectrum of topics within medical informatics, including papers focusing on imaging, pathology, teledermatology, public health, ophthalmological and translational medicine informatics.


Dr Usman Qamar has been appointed Associate Editor of Information Sciences. The journal is designed to serve researchers, developers, managers, strategic planners, graduate students and others interested in state-of-the art research activities in information, knowledge engineering and intelligent systems.


Textbook on Data Science written by Dr Usman Qamar and Dr Summair Raza and published by Springer & Co, is now available to purchase from leading book stores and well as directly from Springer & Co. The textbook covers data analytics, data mining, machine learning and several other related topics.


Dr Usman Qamar has joined the Editorial Board of Neural Computing and Applications, an international journal which publishes original research and other information in the field of practical applications of neural computing and related techniques such as genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic and neuro-fuzzy systems.

Dr Usman Qamar has joined the Editorial Board of Applied Soft Computing (ASoC), international journal promoting an integrated view of soft computing to solve real life problems.


Dr Usman Qamar met Dr Christian Turner, British High Commissioner to Pakistan, with the aim of forming strong links between UK and Pakistani Universities.


Dr Usman Qamar is joining Array as an Associate Editor. Array is an international open access multidisciplinary journal published by Elsevier encompassing a broad spectrum of topics in computer science.

Dr Usman Qamar has joined the editorial board of “Computers in Biology and Medicine (CBM)” published by Elsevier, focuses on revolutionary advances being made in the application of the computer to the fields of bioscience and medicine.


The second edition of the best selling book “Understanding and Using Rough Set Based Feature Selection: Concepts, Techniques and Applications” written by Dr Usman Qamar and Dr Summair Raza is now available to purchase directly from Springer ( The second edition consists of additional 3 chapters including dominance-based rough set approach (DRSA) which is extensively been used in A.I.


Dr Usman Qamar was on the judging panel of the prestigious British Council’s Awards.



Dr Usman Qamar will be on the judging panel of the Data Science Awards 2019 including Data Scientist of the Year, Data Science in Healthcare and Data Science in Public Sector hosted by the prestigious Data Science Foundation, UK.



Dr. Sajid Siraj of Centre for Decision Research (CDR), University of Leeds, UK visited Knowledge and Data Science Research Centre (KDRC) at NUST College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering. During his visit he also met Rector, NUST.

Dr Usman Qamar has been awarded the NUST Best University Researcher Award for 2016 by Rector NUST.

KDRC members at APICTA – Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards 2017 held at Dhaka, Bangladesh.


IntelliHealth, application developed at KDRC has been awarded Gold in Research & Development category by Pakistan Software Houses Association (P@SHA) ICT Awards 2017. The award was accepted by Dr Shoab A Khan, Dr Saba Bashir and Dr Farhan H Khan.
